KORONADAL CITY , South Cotabato | Residents of Barangay Paraiso are set to experience strengthened protection against flooding as the Office of the Provincial Engineer completed the final inspection of the ₱7.9-million flood control project this week.
Designed to directly address long-standing flood concerns in the area, the project, amounting to PHP7,994,412.61, features reinforced embankment protections, silt detention structure and upgraded drainage channels that aim to reduce the impact of heavy rainfall on homes, farms, and local livelihoods.
Constituents from around the area are expected to benefit from fewer disruptions during the rainy season, improved safety, and more secure property conditions.
According to Engineer Jona Dauz of the Maintenance Division, the infrastructure is a crucial step toward safeguarding the communities along the riverbanks.
“This project provides a much-needed layer of protection for the flood prone area around the community,” she said, emphasizing, “It will significantly lessen flood risks and help ensure that families and farmlands are safer during intense weather.”
With the Provincial Government’s commitment in ensuring transparency in all its infrastructure projects, this project underwent strict monitoring and evaluation procedures to ensure quality and proper implementation.
As part of its continuing campaign against corruption and so-called “ghost projects,” the province enforces rigid inspection protocols, documentary validation, and progress verification to guarantee that all public funds are fully accounted for and translated into actual, functioning infrastructure.
With the final inspection completed, the project is now set for documentation and turnover. The office of the provincial engineer expressed confidence that the new flood control system will contribute to long-term stability and resilience for the community of Barangay Paraiso.
