100 Chicken modules distributed to farmers, inmates in South Cotabato

Under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV) and the Animal Production and Development Center (APDC), continues to expand its livelihood initiatives with the successful rollout of poultry dispersal activities in key communities.

In Barangay Lemsnolon, Municipality of T’boli, the Rivera Palay Farmers Association received 50 chicken modules aimed at boosting their poultry production and providing an additional source of income for member-farmers. The initiative is part of the province’s broader strategy to enhance food security while empowering local agricultural groups.

Simultaneously, the program extended its reach to the South Cotabato Rehabilitation and Detention Center (SCRDC), where another 50 chicken modules were distributed. This effort supports the center’s rehabilitation programs by introducing sustainable livelihood opportunities for persons deprived of liberty, equipping them with skills that can be utilized upon reintegration into society.

According to Kelvin Lucena, DVM, the animal dispersal program goes beyond simple livestock distribution.

“The animal dispersal program transforms a single animal into a sustainable production cycle. By providing the initial breeder, we empower farmers to build a diversified livestock portfolio—meaning they aren’t just raising one animal for sale, but are managing a growing herd that acts as a ‘living savings account’,” Lucena explained.

He further emphasized that the initiative plays a significant role in addressing economic challenges at the grassroots level.

“On the other hand, this program also creates an impact on poverty alleviation,” he added.

The poultry dispersal initiative reflects the provincial government’s continued commitment to inclusive growth—ensuring that both farming communities and institutional partners benefit from programs that promote sustainability, resilience, and long-term economic stability.

Through sustained collaboration and strategic interventions, South Cotabato continues to pave the way for stronger, self-reliant communities driven by agriculture-based development.
