109 students engaged, 36 tested as HIV awareness marathon continues in Koronadal

Koronadal City, South Cotabato | December 7, 2025— The Provincial Government of South Cotabato continues to intensify its HIV awareness and prevention efforts as 109 students from Bacongco National High School – Pula Campus participated in the latest leg of the HIV Awareness Marathon, with 36 students voluntarily undergoing HIV Testing and Counselling.

The activity, conducted in partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of the City of Koronadal, highlighted the growing engagement of young people in responsible health-seeking behaviors.

Three newly trained SK leaders, equipped with skills in Provider-Initiated Counselling and Testing (PICT) and Peer Education, performed the testing and counselling under supervision.

John Codilla, Nurse III and Infectious Disease Program Head, described the turnout as a strong sign of increasing awareness among the youth.

We are encouraged to see more young people willing to be informed and tested. Early awareness and early action are crucial in protecting themselves and their communities,” Codilla said.

He emphasized that HIV testing remains free, confidential, and safe, assuring the public that all procedures follow strict protocols to protect the privacy and dignity of participants.

“Every test we conduct is secure and confidential. Our goal is to create a safe space where young people feel empowered to know their status,” he added.

The Provincial Government and its youth partners will continue to expand the HIV Awareness Marathon to more schools and communities in the coming weeks, reinforcing its advocacy for early education, prevention, and accessible health services.
