Some 158 farmers benefitted from the Palay Support Program (PSP), one of the flagship programs of the provincial government under the administration of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Raul Teves disclosed during the recent Kapihan sa Kapitolyo.
Dr. Teves pointed out that the PSP allocated budget is P15 million and that the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) has prioritized farmers who are farming 1 hectare or below palay farms which only have an average yield of 4.6 tons of palay per hectare harvested per cropping season.
A total of 8,110 sacks of rice were bought, of which 7,285 were already withdrawn and only 825 are remaining, according to Teves.
The total value of the rice sold (as of press time) is P15,256,000, Teves confirmed, and which will deposited in a trust fund which is intended for the same purpose next year.
Teves likewise assured that the PSP program will continue next year.(photo credit:google.com)
