Two Local government units in South Cotabato received early this month financial assistance worth Php5 million each for the establishment of community-based drug rehabilitation facilities.
These grants are part of the total of Php 26 million funds for the establishment of rehab centers in Region 12.
In a virtual turn-over of financial assistance to various LGUs on June 25, 2021, the Municipality of Polomolok received Php 5 million funding assistance through Mayor Honey Lumayag-Matti.
Aside from this, the municipality of Surallah through Mayor Antonio Bendita also received earlier this month the Php5 million fund assistance from the DDB for the Construction of the Rehabilitation Center in their locality.
Other recipients LGUs in Region 12 who also received the financial assistance include the following:
Php 5 million for the Province of Sultan Kudarat through Governor Suharto Mangudadato.
Php 5 million for the Municipality Kabacan, Cotabato province through Mayor Herlo P. Guzman Jr.
Php 6 million for the municipality of Malungon, Sarangani province through Mayor Maria Theresa Constantino.
These LCEs expressed their gratitude to the DDB for the said assistance.
According to the DDB, the establishment of a rehab center is a component under the drug demand reduction pillar which aims to reintegrate into the society recovering drug dependents. This way, persons who use drugs (PWUD) are given chance to be treated and rehabilitated through the use of effective treatment modalities, drug dependents are being trained to kick out the habit and become productive citizens of the country once again.
To date, the only accredited rehab center in Region 12 is situated at the Kawas, Alabel in Sarangani province.
The virtual activity was conducted in line with the celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) with the theme, “Share facts on drugs, save lives,”.
