20 schools vie in the Search for Model Schools in SWM

Twenty (20) schools will vie for this year’s province-wide Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management, which is an annual project of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO).

The schools composed of elementary and high schools were endorsed by their respective LGU in coordination with DepED school administrators and City/Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers (C/MENROs).

Joining the search in the elementary category are Lopez Jaena Elementary School (Norala), Sto. Nino Central Elementary School (Sto. Nino), Lugan Central Elementary School (T’boli), Moloy Elementary School (Surallah), Liwanay Elementary School (Banga), Koronadal Central Elementary School II (Koronadal City),Palkan Elementary School (Tupi), Bukay Pait Elementary School (Tantangan), Tampakan Central Elementary School (Tampakan) and Kalkam Elementary School (Polomolok).

In the high school category, the participating schools are Sergio Legayada National High School (Norala), Guinsang-an National High School (Sto. Nino), T’boli National High School (T’boli), Surallah National High School Surallah), Rang-ay Integrated School (Banga), Marbel 7 National High School (Koronadal City),Cebuano National High School (Tupi), Tantangan Trade National High School (Tantangan), Tampakan National High School School (Tampakan) and Poblacion Polomolok National High School (Polomolok).

Earlier, members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) which are also the Search Evaluators met to finalize the mechanics, rules and guidelines, and criteria of the contest.

School administrators and C/MENROs likewise attended the orientation meeting conducted by PEMO led by Elbe Balucanag, PEMO Environment Management Division Officer-in-Charge, after the TWG meeting.

The criteria of the contest are as follows: System and Process (60%); Organization and Support System (30%); Cleanliness and Beatification (5%) and Community Participation (5%).

Prizes at stake for the winners are P30,000.00 (First Prize); P20,000.00 (Second Prize); P15,000.00 (Third Prize); P10,000.00 (Fourth Prize) and P8,000.00 (Fifth Prize). A consolation prize of P5,000.00 will also be given to non-winners provided they met the basic requirements of the contest.

The unannounced initial evaluation will start on July 27 – 31 and August 3 – 7, while the unannounced final evaluation will be on September 28- October 2 and October 5 – 9.

Awarding of Winners will be held on November which coincided with the celebration of International Environment Consciousness Month, Climate Change Month and Clean Air Month.

PEMO together with DENR-EMB 12 will also conduct Poster-Making Contest and an Environment Quiz Bee which are open to all elementary pupils and high school students province-wide during the awarding day.
