32 South Cotabateños repatriated from Middle East will receive government support, can apply for livelihood aid

South Cotabato, Philippines —A total of 32 South Cotabateños who were recently repatriated from the Middle East are set to receive government assistance as the Provincial Government of South Cotabato strengthens its support programs for returning overseas workers.

The repatriation was facilitated in partnership with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), ensuring the safe return of affected individuals back to their home province.

Following their arrival, the Provincial Employment Service Unit (PESU) is now taking steps to assist the repatriates in rebuilding their lives through livelihood and reintegration programs.

According to Flora G. Montoya, PESU Manager of South Cotabato, the repatriates can apply for Kabuhayan Starter Kits under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), which aims to provide initial capital and tools for small business ventures.

“As of now, they can apply for the Kabuhayan Starter Kits. We have also proposed in the AIP 2027 the Financial Assistance intended for them, but this is subject to funding in the annual budget,” Montoya said.

She added that while immediate livelihood assistance is available, the provincial government is also exploring long-term financial support mechanisms to ensure sustainable reintegration of the repatriates into their communities.

Once approved, the proposed financial assistance under the Annual Investment Program (AIP) 2027 will provide additional support to help them recover from displacement and start anew.

The PESU Office continues to coordinate with national government agencies and local partners to expand opportunities for repatriates, including employment facilitation and skills development programs.

The Provincial Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that returning overseas workers will receive the necessary support and opportunities as they transition back to life in South Cotabato.
