KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO — Thirty-three barangays across South Cotabato have qualified for the 2026 Angat Awards, an initiative of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato that recognizes outstanding barangay governments for excellence in governance, service delivery, and community development.
Leiancee Gayle Daanoy, Project Development Assistant, said the Angat Awards is designed to encourage barangays to continuously improve their governance systems and strengthen their commitment to delivering responsive and people-centered public service.
“This program aims to promote and encourage excellence in barangay through strengthening its commitment: Serbisyong may puso at integridad, South Cotabato Angat ka sa Lahat!” Daanoy said.
Daanoy said the cash prizes, which the Barangays will be receiving, may be utilized in their own priority programs and for the development of their Barangay,” Daanoy stressed.
These barangays were selected from the top three performers of each component city and municipality in the province following a comprehensive assessment conducted by the respective Component City/Municipality Assessment Teams (CCMATs).
The 33 shortlisted barangays will vie for the Top 6 spots in the 2026 Angat Awards, which will be presented during the awarding ceremony on August 19, 2026, at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center.
More than ₱6.5 million in cash prizes will be awarded to the province’s top-performing barangays as part of the recognition program.
The assessment was anchored on the National Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLG-B) Data Capture Form (DCF), covering 13 core areas that measure the effectiveness of barangay governance and service delivery.
The various Barangays were evaluation based on the following areas: Financial Administration and Stability; Organization and Management Effectivity; Legislation; Functionality of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council; Functionality of the Barangay Development Council; Mechanisms for Gender and Development; Mechanisms on the Protection of Women and Children from Violence; Business Friendliness and Competitiveness; Agricultural Support Services; Basic Education Delivery; Excellent Health Governance; Environmental Management; and Disaster Preparedness.
The evaluation was conducted from June 22 to July 8, 2026, with evaluators drawn from various offices of the Provincial Government, civil society organizations, and the Department of Education. Final consolidation of the assessment results was conducted on July 23 and 24.
The initiative reinforces the Provincial Government’s efforts to strengthen grassroots governance by recognizing barangays that demonstrate effective leadership, sound management practices, responsive service delivery, and preparedness in addressing the needs and concerns of their communities.
Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. continues to underscore the importance of strong Barangay governance in advancing the province’s development agenda, emphasizing that effective public service begins at the community level.
“My administration remains committed to supporting and empowering barangay governments while promoting transparency, accountability, integrity, and responsive governance in the delivery of services to every South Cotabateño,” the governor said.
Through the Angat Awards, the Provincial Government seeks to further motivate barangay governments to sustain good governance practices, improve public service delivery, and strengthen their partnership with communities in advancing inclusive and sustainable development across South Cotabato.
