KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato continuously supports the 416 cooperatives through the Office of the Provincial Cooperative Development Officer (OPCDO), to strengthen their operations and sustain their growth as key players in the province’s economic development.
The initiative supports the provincial government’s goal of developing a stronger and more sustainable cooperative sector.
Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. emphasized the important role of cooperatives in the province, saying that the sector is a major economic driver toward sustainable development.
“Ang layunin natin sa probinsya ay hindi lang magbigay ng panandaliang tulong, kundi ang bumuo ng isang maunlad na sistema kung saan ang ating mga kooperatiba ay magiging ganap na self-reliant at katuwang ng pamahalaan sa paglikha ng mas maraming trabaho,” the governor said.
At present, South Cotabato has three cooperatives with assets reaching the billion-peso level, reflecting the growing capacity of cooperatives to contribute to the local economy.
According to Marlon C. Serilo, Supervising Cooperative Development Specialist, “the OPCDO provides organizational meetings and other forms of assistance to help cooperatives improve their operations and address their needs.”
Through continued guidance and support, the provincial government aims to help cooperatives become more organized, capable, and sustainable, allowing them to create more opportunities and contribute further to the economic well-being of communities across South Cotabato.
