South Cotabato, Philippines — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through its Animal Dispersal Program, distributed 50 ducks to the Valley Producer Farmers Association on February 12, 2026, at Barangay Laconon, Municipality of T’boli.
The beneficiary group, comprising 40 farmer-members, received the ducks as part of the province’s ongoing effort to support livelihood initiatives and strengthen food production in rural communities.
According to Kelvin Lucena, DVM, the program is designed to create long-term economic benefits for farmers.
“In Barangay Laconon, the animal dispersal program transforms a single animal into a sustainable production cycle. By providing the initial breeder, we empower farmers to build a diversified livestock portfolio—meaning they aren’t just raising one animal for sale, but are managing a growing herd that acts as a ‘living savings account,’” Lucena said.
“On the other hand, this program also creates an impact on poverty alleviation,” he added.
Local agricultural and veterinary personnel facilitated the activity and provided basic guidance on proper duck management, feeding, and health care to ensure the success of the project.
The Animal Dispersal Program remains one of the provincial government’s key initiatives to empower farmers, increase agricultural productivity, and promote food security across South Cotabato.
