Local Artisans undergo capability-building training

IP artisans in South Cotabato underwent 3-day capacity-building on Ansif weaving and embroidery spearheaded by the Arts, Culture, Tourism and Museum (ACTM) Unit.

Renowned fashion designer and Project Runway Philippines finalist Jared Servano from the City of Koronadal led the training participated by 25 embroiderers and weavers each coming from Danlag, Tampakan and Sitio Amguo, Landan, Polomolok, respectively.

Tourism Operations Officer II Indira Cagaanan revealed that the rationale behind the training is to further improve or level up the Ansif embroidery and weaving of the Blaans in the area and not to meddle with their traditional craft.

The Blaan artisans showcased their sample embroidery and weaving in pillow cases and tote bags during their training sessions.

Servano pointed out,“that the artisans can earn more from their  embroidered or weaved products if  they will be sold as pillow cases or tote bags in the local market.

ACTM sponsored a contest among the artisans and gave 5 kgs. of rice to the wining embroiderers and weavers as incetive. .
