South Cotabato, Philippines | November 01, 2025 – Over 400 Barangay Nutrition Scholars, together with Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, health coordinators, and other partners, joined the event which highlighted the outstanding efforts of grassroots workers in advancing the province’s nutrition programs.

Among the most anticipated parts of the congress was the Gulayan sa Ugsaran 2025 Awards, recognizing top-performing barangays for their thriving community gardens.
Barangay Esperanza of Koronadal City bagged the first place, followed by Barangay San Jose of Norala in second, and Barangay Centrala of Surallah in third.
Community Affairs Officer IV Angela B. Frugalidad expressed her admiration for the BNS, who continue to serve as nutrition champions in their respective barangays.
“Our Barangay Nutrition Scholars are the lifeblood of our nutrition programs. Their dedication—from promoting healthy diets to sustaining community gardens—shows how grassroots efforts can truly make a difference in every household,” Frugalidad emphasized.
Frugalidad said the program shines a light on the tireless contributions of these volunteers to the province’s overall health and development.
Meanwhile, in the Individual BNS Garden Category, Ceceilia Musico of Barangay Cinco, Banga, claimed the top award. Celia Aguirre of Barangay Duengas, Surallah earned the second spot, and Christine Camacho of Barangay Caloocan, Koronadal City, took third place.
Frugalidad also extended heartfelt gratitude to Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. for his unwavering support of the province’s nutrition initiatives and to Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Rudy S. Jimenea for his exemplary leadership in ensuring the continuous success of the program.
The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) Program Implementation Review and Congress are an annual event as hundreds of dedicated BNS gathered to celebrate their achievements and renew their commitment to promoting nutrition in their communities.
