KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato continues to strengthen its commitment to providing opportunities and sustainable livelihood programs through skills development initiatives for local communities.
The Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (OPSWDO), through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), in partnership with the TESDA Provincial Training Center–Surallah, conducted a four-day Casket Making Training for members of People’s Organizations from the municipalities of Lake Sebu and T’boli.

The training aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and technical skills in casket making as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities, particularly for communities undergoing reintegration and recovery.
According to PSWDO Head Sonia L. Bautista, the initiative goes beyond skills training by also seeking to restore dignity, confidence, and hope among the beneficiaries.
“We believe that empowering communities begins with providing them with the right skills and opportunities. Through this casket-making training, we are not only equipping participants with a sustainable source of livelihood but also strengthening their capacity to support families in times of need through the Provincial Government’s burial assistance program. This initiative reflects our commitment to inclusive development, dignity, and hope for every South Cotabateño,” Bautista said.
She further explained that the Provincial Government of South Cotabato intends to purchase the caskets produced by the trained participants as part of the province’s burial assistance program.
The initiative aims to ease the burden on bereaved families by ensuring that caskets are provided free of charge to indigent families.
“Through the training, participants enhanced their craftsmanship and gained valuable experience in casket production as a practical, income-generating livelihood opportunity,” Bautista stressed.
Beyond technical learning, the activity also encouraged participants to become more productive, self-reliant, and prepared to support their families and communities.
The program highlights the importance of collaboration between government agencies and local communities in creating meaningful opportunities that promote inclusive growth and long-term development.
The successful delivery of the training demonstrates that, with proper guidance, knowledge, and livelihood support, more individuals can be empowered to build a better future and a renewed sense of purpose.
