The Convergence Approach for Transformation and Change–Unification Program (CATCH-UP), in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (PDRRMO), spearheaded a social preparation activity in Sitio Lambuoy, Barangay Canahay, on August 4, 2025, as part of groundwork for the proposed tire path project in the area.
The activity brought together officials from both CATCH-UP and the Provincial DRRM Office, who met with local residents to discuss the project’s objectives, expected benefits, and the implementation process. Community members were encouraged to share their insights and concerns, underscoring the province’s commitment to participatory planning and inclusive development.
According to project planners, the proposed tire path will serve a dual purpose: improving mobility for residents of Sitio Lambuoy and neighboring sitios, while also strengthening disaster preparedness by providing reliable access routes during emergencies. The project is expected to ease the transport of agricultural goods, improve access to social services, and enhance overall connectivity in this remote part of Surallah.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rolly Doane C. Aquino, RN, MPA, MMNSA, MMCMDR, emphasized the importance of involving residents at the earliest stages of development. “Community participation is crucial because they are the direct beneficiaries of this project. By hearing their perspectives, we ensure that the intervention is not only technically sound but also responsive to their actual needs,” Aquino said.
The activity in Sitio Lambuoy marks another step in South Cotabato’s push for integrated development, where infrastructure projects are aligned with disaster resilience and long-term sustainability.
