South Cotabato, Koronadal City- On September 26, 2024, the Provincial Population Office (PPO) conducted a Gender Orientation session for nine couples from various municipalities across South Cotabato. The participants were carefully selected with the assistance of the Municipal Local Population Officers, focusing on those who could benefit most from a deeper understanding of Gender and Development (GAD) principles.
The orientation aimed to strengthen the couples’ relationships by helping them better understand each other’s roles, challenges, and sacrifices within the family unit. By incorporating GAD principles, the program sought to foster mutual respect and reduce conflicts in relationships, thereby enhancing both the mental well-being and overall harmony within their homes.
At the conclusion of the session, each couple received financial assistance derived from the proceeds of the iJuanaRun Fun Run held earlier this year, on March 23, 2024. The support was extended by the Provincial Population Office (PPO), represented by event organizer Ms. Lilibeth Garcia of the SOX Runners & Trail Runners. The monetary aid was provided as an additional measure to support the couples’ participation and further empower them in their roles as partners.
The couples expressed their gratitude for the program, highlighting that the insights they gained would help them better understand and respect their partners. Many felt that this orientation offered practical strategies for reducing conflicts and fostering healthier communication, ultimately leading to stronger, more supportive relationships.
This initiative highlights the Provincial Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting families through programs that promote gender equality, mental well-being, and the development of healthy, respectful relationships.
