KORONADAL CITY — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato has officially launched the DAGYAW Program (Development on Agriculture Growth Yearning for the Active Welfare of South Cotabato), marking a major step toward a unified approach to agricultural development.
The program was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by national agencies, local government units (LGUs), and partner organizations, working together to support farmers and promote inclusive growth.
According to Provincial Agriculturist Raul D. Teves, “the program also promotes environmentally sustainable farming, including agroforestry, with coffee, cacao, and abaca identified as climate-resilient crops.”
The MOA ensures that all partner agencies will work together through joint planning, coordinated implementation, and shared monitoring systems.
Dr. Teves said DAGYAW focuses on three key crops — coffee, cacao, and abaca — identified as strong drivers of the province’s economy.
“The program supports the entire process of farming, from production and processing to market access, ensuring farmers receive full assistance,” he said.
Several government agencies, including the Department of Agriculture, Philippine Coconut Authority, DENR, ATI, and DOST, will provide technical support, while DOLE and DSWD will assist in the livelihood programs. Governance support will come from DILG, DAR, CDA, and OPAg.
A key goal of the program is to empower LGUs to lead development in their communities, making sure services and investments reach farmers, especially those in remote areas.
The Provincial Government of South Cotabato under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. also encourages more national agencies to join the program and contribute resources and expertise to further strengthen agricultural development in South Cotabato.
