DENR 12 to conduct Planning Workshop on USAID-funded Protect Wildlife project

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) XII together with USAID Protect Wildlife Project will conduct a Joint Consultation and Planning Workshop on Monday, July 24 at Venue88, General Santos City together with Region XII Stakeholders to identify and agree on the set of strategies and major activities for the implementation of the said project.

Earlier this year, DENR-Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) and DENR Region XII have completed the assessment of potential sites and possible partners for implementation in Sarangani and South Cotabato for the USAID-funded Protect Wildlife Project.

Visits that followed to selected sites in SOCCSKSARGEN region last month provided adequate information to confirm the choice and recommendation of BMB which include South Cotabato-Sarangani seascapes-landscapes DENR XII Regional Director Reynulfo Juan confirmed.

Four (4) major landscapes/seascapes that were identified as possible targets were Mt. Matutum, Sarangani Seascape-Landscape, Busa Mountain Range which is the habitat of the Philippine Eagle and Allah Valley Watershed Reservation.

Director Juan added that the workshop outputs will be used to the project’s preparation of its Year Two (2) work plan.

The project projected timeline is from September 2017 to August 2018.

Representing the province of South Cotabato in the Planning Workshop are representatives of the Provincial Environment Management Office, Provincial Planning and Development Office and Provincial Information Office.
