Digital, modern farming takes center stage in Gov. Tamayo’s agriculture

South Cotabato, Philippines | January 23, 2026 – One of the key programs continuously supported by Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. is modernized, digitalized, and consolidated farming through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, aimed at improving productivity, efficiency, and long-term food sustainability in the province

According to Rommel Eladia, Supervising Agriculturist, the province is optimistic about completing the rice consolidated farming program to allow the immediate start of corn production, followed by the expansion of high-value crops such as vegetables.

He emphasized that this is a directive of Governor Tamayo to maintain stable food security and to enable the province to supply agricultural produce to neighboring provinces.

“We hope to complete the rice consolidated farming so that corn production can begin immediately, followed by the expansion of high-value crops such as vegetables. This is the directive of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. to maintain stable food security and to ensure supply for our neighboring provinces,” Eladia said.

As part of this expansion, Paula Joy Candido, Agriculturist I, highlighted the importance of forming farmers’ associations to facilitate easier crop consolidation.

Organizing farmers in this way strengthens consolidated rice and corn production and ensures more efficient delivery of government support.

“Similar to the rice consolidated production, we are organizing the farmers to unify their production. This allows government interventions and assistance to be delivered more efficiently and effectively,” Candido added.

(Same sa rice consolidated production, gina-organize pud naton gihapon kita sa mga farmers para isahon sila, isahon pud ang ilang production para isahon pud ang intervention og tabang na pwede naton mahatag saila.)

Records show that during the second semester of 2025, around 847 farmers were served and actively participated in the province’s consolidated farming program.

This covered a total of 1,637 hectares of rice fields, which were consolidated and provided with various agricultural interventions, including technical assistance and production support.

This year, the province is further expanding its rice consolidated farming program—not only in six municipalities, but by establishing one designated area each in ten municipalities and one city.

With these programs, the Tamayo Administration continues to empower farmers, modernize agricultural practices, and reinforce the province’s commitment to food security, sustainable agriculture, and economic growth.
