South Cotabato, Philippines – The Municipality of Polomolok formally received its Dog Impounding Facility in Barangay Pagalungan during a turnover ceremony held on September 30, 2025.
The establishment of the facility marks a significant step in the province’s ongoing campaign against rabies and in promoting animal welfare.
Dr. Javier highlighted the importance of continuous vaccination efforts in the fight against rabies.
“Rabies is a 100% preventable disease, and vaccination remains our strongest defense. Every pet owner must do their part because protecting animals also means protecting the lives of people in the community,” he said.
The Dog Impounding Facility is expected to serve as a center for rabies prevention, control, and the implementation of the Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release (TNVR) program, complementing the province’s advocacy for responsible pet ownership.
In line with the celebration of World Rabies Day 2025 with the theme “Act Now: You, Me, Community”, the OPVet also conducted a seminar and forum on Responsible Pet Ownership and Rabies Eradication last September 30.
The activity, held at Notre Dame Siena College of Polomolok, engaged students in discussions about pet care, vaccination, and the role of communities in achieving a rabies-free South Cotabato.
The event was graced by Mayor Bernie D. Palencia, Mr. Roberto Catapang, Municipal Agriculturist, and Dr. Errol B. Javier, DVM, Animal Health and Regulatory Division Chief of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, together with representatives from the Provincial Government of South Cotabato.
Through initiatives such as the new facility and ongoing information campaigns, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato strengthens its commitment to achieving a rabies-free province and ensuring the health and safety of both people and animals.
