Earth Day Celebration… 2016 Airshed Board conducts Vehicle Smoke Emission Testing

CITY OF KORONADAL — Some 30 vehicles, both government and privately-owned, were subjected to Vehicle Smoke Emission Testing by members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) of the South Cotabato Airshed Governing Board (SCAGB) last April 21 at the PROTECH Center, this city.

The emission testing was part of the Capability Building and Deputation of Enforcers for SCAGB where TWG members underwent “hands-on” training on the use of the Opacity Meter, the equipment used in vehicle smoke emission testing.

To apply their training after the lecture of Engr. Mario Saur from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority on April 20, an In-House vehicle Smoke Emission Testing was conducted on diesel-fuel vehicles the following day.

The TWG was divided into two (2) teams with specific designation and function for each member such as Team Leader, Recorders and Tenders.

After the testing, six (6) vehicles failed the test which included four (4) Isuzu Crosswind, one (1) Toyota Hilux and one (1) Ford Ranger.

A cliniquing of the activity was conducted the next day (April 22) where TWG members gave their respective reaction or comment on the conduct of the testing.

SCAGB plans to conduct a regular Vehicle Smoke Emission Testing on the next months ahead as part of their monitoring of the compliance of vehicles on the emission standards set under Republic Act 8749 or the Philippine Clean Air Act.
