Elderly celebration highlights awareness on programs and services for senior citizens across South Cotabato

Koronadal City, Philippines | October 10, 2025 – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato underscored the importance of keeping senior citizens informed about ongoing programs and services during the Elderly Celebration held this week.

According to the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) spearheaded the culmination program of the Provincial Elderly Day with the theme “Embracing Age: Living a Life with Dignity and Purpose” at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center. Elders from 10 municipalities and 1 city in the province gathered to celebrate the occasion, highlighting the government’s continuing commitment to the welfare of senior citizens.

Mr. Jose A. Cabradilla, Sr., President of the South Cotabato Federation of Senior Citizens Association, underscored the importance of the event:

“This is very important for the elderly so that they will know where the senior citizens’ programs are headed, especially in every part of South Cotabato. Members should also be informed about the different services we are providing them so they will know what to do and where to go.”

Meanwhile, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Sonia L. Bautista commended the senior citizens, calling them the province’s inspiration in crafting programs with compassion and heart:

“You are our inspiration in continuously creating programs with compassion and heart. Our theme today reminds us that aging is a blessing and should not be feared. It is only the number of years that increases, so we should not be afraid.”

As part of the celebration, certificates and plaques of recognition were awarded to partner Local Government Units (LGUs) and focal persons for their invaluable contributions to senior citizen programs. The festivities also featured the Coronation of Gandang Lola 2025, a singing duo competition, and a folk-dance presentation, which showcased the talents and vibrance of the elderly community.

The Provincial Elderly Day Culmination not only honors the invaluable contributions of the elderly but also strengthens community bonds, reminding everyone that aging is a gift to be celebrated with dignity and purpose.
