Electronic medical records system expands in South Cotabato as health navigators reach 450,000 enrollees

South Cotabato, Philippines | August 20, 2025 – South Cotabato is accelerating its digital health transformation with the full rollout of its Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) and a comprehensive documentation system.

Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. confirmed the project is underway after Provincial Health Navigators completed their orientation. The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported last week that around 450,000 individuals have been enrolled.

“Actually, tuloy-tuloy tayo. Natapos na yong orientation ng mga Provincial Health Navigators natin. Sa 20 katao dapat may isang health navigator tayo,” Gov. Tamayo stated.

Provincial Health Navigators play a vital role in the community health system. They are on the front lines, gathering and updating the health data of residents in different barangays. These navigators are essential to the province’s efforts to ensure accurate, accessible, and real-time medical data for reporting and analysis.

These navigators work in partnership with the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) and other agencies under the Barangay Affairs Unit Program, a flagship initiative of the Office of the Governor. Their main task is to facilitate the encoding and verification of health records into the EMR system, which supports better patient care and streamlines public health planning.

The South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) is embracing the EMR system to streamline medical documentation, eliminate paperwork, and bolster coordination among healthcare workers. This digital transformation is a key step toward the province’s long-term goal of building a unified, data-driven healthcare system.

With over 450,000 individuals now enrolled, South Cotabato is pioneering a more efficient healthcare delivery system and digital governance. Governor Tamayo’s proactive leadership continues to be a driving force in shaping a more inclusive and tech-enabled provincial health system.
