KORONADAL CITY — Solid Waste Management – Technical Working Group (SWM-TWG) Core Group Members decided to conduct an Environment Summit cum Ecology Day on November 22 during a Convenors Meeting and Planning Workshop held yesterday here.
Spearheaded by Provincial Environment Management Officer Siegfred Flaviano, the lined up activities approved by the SWM-TWG include weekly bikefest, tree-planting and smoke emission testing starting on November and symposium and recy-composition contest during the whole day summit.
The bikefest, tree-planting and smoke emission testing is a collaboration among the Provincial League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PLLENRO) – South Cotabato and South Cotabato Airshed Governing Board (SCAGB) plus other sectors.
The topics and discussant of the symposium, on the other hand, are “Decreasing Plastic Waste through Plastic Bottle Classroom – Palkan National High School and Batang Bantoxics – T’boli National High School. The launching of Green-Silient Schools by RD Foundation and the presentation of Bio-Tech Farms, Inc. of their Fiber Tray Project likewise will also include as part of symposium.
With the success of the recy-composition last year, the said contest is still open students this year to high school students who have talents in “jingle” singing, in which winning pieces will eventually be use in their Eco-Caravan Information Drive Campaign of PEMO by 2019, according to PEMO.
Flaviano added that this is also an opportune time for them to recognize partners of their different programs through a recognition ceremony and after which, the awarding of the 2017 Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management will follow as the highlight of the summit.
Different committees were formed during the meeting such as Program and Invitation, Promotion and Documentation, Food and Transportation, Ways and Means and Oversight with members coming from the SWM-TWG members.
The SWM-TWG members are composed of PEMO, PLLENRO, SCAGB, Provincial Engineer’s Office, Sangguniang Panlalawigan – Committee on Environment, Provincial Information Office, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Environment Management Bureau, Department of Education City and Provincial Schools Divisions, NGOgo partners South Cotabato Foundation Inc., Tribal Leaders Development Foundation Inc. and Mahintana Foundation Inc. and private sector Bio-Tech Farms, Inc.
November is yearly celebrated as Environmental Awareness Month, Clean Air Month and Climate Change Consciousness Week.
