South Cotabato – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through its Office of the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator – Special Projects Division, recently launched a recognition and awards program that grants ₱1 million cash prizes to barangay local government units (BLGUs) demonstrating excellence in local governance.
Leiancee Daanoy, secretariat of the committee, said the awards and recognition program dubbed as “ANGAT:SGLG-B” aims to recognize performing barangays local government units who deliver quality local service in their communities.
“The provincial government of South Cotabato launched this program in hopes of pushing barangays to do better and to deliver quality service to their constituents,” Daanoy said in an interview.

Barangay-awardees are set to receive cash prizes as follows:
- Outstanding Barangay– PHP1,000,000.00
- 1st Runner-up – PHP800,000.00
- 2nd Runner-up – PHP600,000.00
- 3rd Runner-up – PHP500,000.00
- 4th Runner-up – PHP350,000.00
- 5th Runner-up – PHP250,000.00
- Consolation Prizes – PHP100,000.00
“The Provincial Search Committee assesses the BLGUs across key areas of governance, including legislation, social protection and sensitivity, financial management, agricultural services, environmental management, business competitiveness, and health compliance and responsiveness,” Daanoy emphasized.
The awards program is based off the Department of Interior and Local Government’s implementation of the Seal of Good Local Governance – for Barangays.
The evaluation of the barangay-awardees has already begun last July 2025 and the awards body is set to release its results in the upcoming months.
