KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — Farmers from across South Cotabato gathered for the Farm Walk and Farmers Festival at the Provincial Nursery and Demonstration Farm, one of the major events of the 27th T’nalak Festival and 60th Foundation Anniversary of the province, highlighting the theme, “Our Farmers, Our Hope, Our Pride.”
In his message, Vice Governor Arthur Y. Pingoy Jr. recognized the vital role of farmers in ensuring food security and sustaining the province’s agricultural economy.
“Our farmers remain the foundation of South Cotabato’s progress. The Provincial Government continues to exert every effort to ease their burden and provide them with the support they need.”
Different agricultural companies and partner organizations also showcased demonstration plots, improved crop varieties, and farm inputs, providing farmers with updated technologies and innovations to improve productivity.
One of the event’s highlights was the Tilapia Festival, which promoted the province’s aquaculture industry and underscored the importance of fisheries in ensuring food security and sustainable livelihoods. Participants also witnessed the presentation of the results of the Adaptability and On-Farm Varietal Trial of Hybrid Corn, giving farmers valuable information on high-performing corn varieties suited to local growing conditions.
The Farm Walk and Farmers Festival forms part of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato’s continuing commitment to support farmers by promoting innovation, technology transfer, and sustainable agricultural development while recognizing their vital contribution to the province’s food security and economic growth.
Aside from Vice Gov. Pingoy, the activity was also attended by Board Member Nilda B. Almencion, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Agriculture, Department of Agriculture (DA) Region XII Regional Executive Director John B. Pascual, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Director Giselle Eve G. Ortega-Siladan, representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), municipal agriculturists, farmers from different local government units, agricultural companies, and crop industry partners.
