Koronadal City, South Cotabato — The fast-tracked construction of the new four-storey building at the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) is expected to significantly enhance convenience for patients and health workers while expanding the range of services offered by the facility.
According to Dr. Ana Marie Tuburan, Chief of the hospital’s Outpatient Department, the ongoing construction marks a major milestone in the hospital’s long-term infrastructure improvement program. The new structure is designed to meet the growing demand for medical services in South Cotabato and nearby provinces.
In an interview, Dr. Tuburan explained that the project aims to provide more space, modern facilities, and improved accessibility to medical services. The additional floors and expanded infrastructure will allow the hospital to offer more specialized services, accommodate a greater number of patients, and elevate the overall quality of healthcare delivery in the province.
“Once completed, the new building will not only accommodate more patients but will also provide better working spaces for our medical staff,” Dr. Tuburan said.
“This expansion is part of our continuous effort to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery in South Cotabato.”
Dr. Tuburan also detailed the planned functions of each floor in the new facility:
- Second Floor: To serve as additional patient wards, enabling the hospital to admit more patients, especially during outbreaks or emergencies.
- Third Floor: Will house new operating rooms to strengthen surgical services and minimize waiting times for procedures.
- Fourth Floor: Set to include conference rooms and training areas that will host continuing medical education, staff training, and health-related seminars.
The expansion aligns with the provincial government’s vision of transforming the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital into a modern, accessible, and patient-centered healthcare institution.
Aside from the four-storey structure, Dr. Tuburan revealed that two additional buildings are also in the pipeline to complement existing facilities and support departments such as diagnostics, outpatient care, and administrative services.
Furthermore, the old main hospital building will undergo renovation to create more wards and service rooms, optimizing existing spaces to accommodate the increasing patient load.
“We are not just expanding horizontally but also upgrading our current facilities to meet modern healthcare standards,” Dr. Tuburan emphasized. “Our goal is to ensure that every South Cotabateño has access to quality and efficient medical care.”
Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. has consistently prioritized healthcare as one of his administration’s key programs. The ongoing improvements at SCPH are part of the province’s Health System Strengthening Program, which also includes the upgrading of rural health units, acquisition of modern medical equipment, and continuous capacity-building for healthcare workers.
The project is funded through a combination of provincial government resources and national health grants, which signifies strong collaboration between local and national agencies to meet the region’s growing healthcare needs.
Once completed, the new hospital building is expected to significantly reduce overcrowding, enhance patient comfort, and improve service efficiency. It will also serve as a training and development hub for medical professionals across South Cotabato and neighboring provinces.
The construction of the new four-storey South Cotabato Provincial Hospital building stands as a symbol of progress and development— true to its commitment of bringing, “Tama at Maayos na Serbisyo” to its people.
