Free anti-rabies vaccinations for pets in South Cotabato

Koronadal City, South Cotabato -The Provincial Veterinary Office of South Cotabato has significantly intensified its anti-rabies campaign, strengthening efforts to protect communities across the province through the provision of free anti-rabies vaccinations for pets.

The move forms part of a broader public health initiative aimed at eliminating rabies cases and promoting responsible pet ownership among residents.

Leading the campaign is Provincial Veterinary Officer Byron F. Dela Cruz, who has called on all pet owners to actively participate in the vaccination drive.

“Rabies remains a serious public health concern, but it is preventable through proper vaccination and responsible pet ownership,” Dela Cruz said in a recent statement at Pulong pulong sa Katawhan.

He emphasized the importance of immunizing pets such as dogs, cats, monkeys, and other animals that may potentially carry and transmit the rabies virus.

“We strongly encourage all residents to bring their pets for free vaccination to protect not only their animals but also their families and communities,” he said.

The intensified campaign is in line with the directive of Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., who has consistently advocated for accessible veterinary and public health services throughout the province.

Under his mandate, the Provincial Veterinary Office continues to expand its outreach programs to ensure that even remote communities benefit from free veterinary services, including anti-rabies vaccination.

The Provincial Veterinary Office’s vaccination initiative is offered free of charge, removing financial barriers that may prevent pet owners from seeking preventive care. Officials stress that vaccination is not only a protective measure but also a civic responsibility.

“Responsible pet ownership means ensuring that pets are regularly vaccinated and properly cared for,” Dela Cruz added. “Through this campaign, we aim to raise awareness and foster a culture of accountability among pet owners in South Cotabato.”

Aside from vaccinations, the office also conducts information drives to educate residents about rabies prevention, proper pet handling, and the steps to take in case of animal bites.

Community partnerships with local government units and barangay officials further strengthen the reach of the campaign.

Residents who wish to avail of the free anti-rabies vaccination services are encouraged to visit the Provincial Veterinary Office located at the Provincial Capitol Compound in Koronadal City. The office is open during regular government working hours.

With the intensified vaccination campaign now underway, provincial officials remain optimistic that collective community action will lead to a significant reduction in rabies cases. Through sustained government support and active participation from residents, South Cotabato moves closer to its goal of becoming a rabies-free province.
