South Cotabato, Philippines | February 04, 2026 – Through the education programs of South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., stories of perseverance continue to emerge from communities across the province, including that of Gerlie L. Gansulan of Barangay Basag, T’boli.
Growing up in a farming family, Gerlie learned early that life would not be easy as her parents relied solely on agriculture for their livelihood. Despite the daily struggles, she refused to let poverty limit her dreams.
Now a Provincial School Board (PSB) Substitute Teacher, Gerlie stands as a symbol of determination and hope.
She proudly shared that she is the first college graduate in her family, an achievement she attained through years of sacrifice, hard work, and inspiration drawn from her family’s situation.

She earned her degree as a Secondary Teacher major in Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE).
“Ako ang first Graduate sa amon nga pamilya” Gansulan stated.
As the eldest among five siblings, Gerlie carried heavy responsibilities.
There were moments when financial difficulties almost forced her to give up.
She also faced discouragement and discrimination from relatives who doubted her ability to finish school because of her family’s economic condition.
Still, she chose resilience and continued pursuing her education.
Her persistence paid off when she was hired through the Provincial School Board under the Provincial Government of South Cotabato.
Gerlie expressed her gratitude to the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, saying programs opened opportunities for aspiring teachers like her.

Today, she fulfills her long-time dream as a Senior High School Substitute Teacher in her own community.
Another PSB beneficiary, Roque Troy F. Sayson of Barangay Liberty, Tampakan, also shared a journey marked by loss and courage.
While still in Senior High School, his father passed away unexpectedly, leaving his mother as the family’s sole provider.
Despite the emotional and financial burden, Sayson persevered and completed his studies.
Based on record, since Governor Tamayo assumed office in 2019, the number of PSB teachers in South Cotabato has significantly increased, creating more opportunities for educators.
Meanwhile, Pretty Grace D. Ofong described the program as a blessing to the province, highlighting his approachable leadership and fair treatment of all constituents.
“Isa ka Blessings sa amon nga mga Provincial School Board Teacher ang programa” Ofong Emphasized.
In 2019, there were 184 teachers hired and paid by the Provincial Government of South Cotabato and last year, record showed that there are 529 teachers enlisted in the program.
Early this year, Governor Tamayo hired 50 additional teachers allocated from the PSB fund.
Under the present administration, free education is one of the priority programs.
