South Cotabato, Philippines—In a heartfelt address during his oath-taking ceremony, South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. reflected on the deep personal reasons behind his public service. He shared that one of his main motivations for running as governor in 2019 was his late father, whose legacy continues to inspire him.
“Isa sa mga pangunahing rason kung bakit ako tumakbo bilang gobernador ay ang aking ama. Siya talaga ang dahilan kung bakit sinubukan kong magsilbi sa ating probinsya,” he said.
“Pinangarap ko na sana siya pa rin ang Congressman ngayon para kahit papaano, makapanumpa ako sa harap ng aking ama,” he added.
Governor Tamayo also spoke about the many trials faced during his first term, noting how unity and the unwavering support of his family helped him overcome them. He emphasized that the province’s achievements were only possible through cooperation and teamwork.
“Akala ko noon napakahirap, pero dahil sa pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan, nalampasan natin,” he said.
Looking ahead, Tamayo encouraged the people of South Cotabato to stay involved and united in the mission to continue the programs they have started. He stressed that the success of the province depends on the collective effort of its citizens.
Among the accomplishments he highlighted were free education, free hospitalization, infrastructure development, and South Cotabato’s pioneering Risk Reduction Plan—the first in the Philippines. He proudly noted that the province has already produced over 10,000 graduates under its education programs.
“Hindi man agad makita ang epekto ng mga programa, mararamdaman ito ng susunod na henerasyon,” he concluded.
Governor Tamayo reaffirmed his commitment to serve and uplift the lives of every South Cotabateño with integrity and compassion.
