Gov. Tamayo boasts localized social pension distribution to senior citizens

South Cotabato, Philippines – Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. highlighted the exemplary implementation of the social pension program in South Cotabato.

The program is the first of its kind in the Philippines, implemented under a memorandum of agreement between the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Provincial Government of South Cotabato.

Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo also assured that senior citizens will receive the appropriate services and benefits, particularly the social pension for senior citizens in the province. During the past two (2) years, the distribution of the program in the community has also been successful.

“We assure that senior citizens will receive the appropriate services and benefits, particularly the social pension for senior citizens in the province. During the past two (2) years, the distribution of the program in the community has also been successful,” the governor said.

The updated data was the result of thorough validation and on-site visits by personnel across South Cotabato’s sitios and barangays to ensure that only legitimate beneficiaries remain on the list.

Officials say the move not only promotes transparency but also highlights the need to transfer some national programs to local governments to improve monitoring and curb corruption.
