Gov. Tamayo calls barangay to be a ‘listening government’

South Cotabato, Philippines –Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr. calls on barangays to be a “listening” government, highlighting key points that problems in the barangay should be addressed through the “bottom-up” approach.

The Provincial Government of South Cotabato under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., pushes for local good governance in barangays during the recently concluded Liga ng mga Barangay Mobile Conference in Puerto Princesa, Palawan last February 23-25, 2026.

“As your local chief executive, I appreciate the unity that we have especially in our barangays. It is through this unity – our collaboration, from the provincial level down to the barangay level – we can bring progress and development in the province of South Cotabato that is felt by the people,” Governor Tamayo said.

Gov. Tamayo lauded the collaborative efforts of all local barangay government units in the province, citing their contribution to the province’s progress.

In addition, This initiative further reaffirms the provincial government’s commitment in strengthening transparent and good governance through the grassroots level as a pioneer member of the Open Government Partnership – Global (OGP-Global) in the Philippines.

South Cotabato’s Provincial Liga Congress this year is anchored on the theme “Empowered Barangays: Promoting Good Governance, Sustainable practices, and Disaster resilience”.

The mobile conference gathered over 400 barangay officials on the 200 barangays in the province of South Cotabato to tackle pressing issues and upholding good governance practices in the barangay level.

The provincial congress aims to further capacitate local barangay government units in finance management, procurement and budgeting, and upholding integrity in the delivery of public services to its constituents.
