Gov. Tamayo empowers women in South Cotabato

SOUTH COTABATO , PHILIPPINES | FEBRUARY 21, 2026 – South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. actively leads the province in celebrating Women’s Month, recognizing the rights, abilities, and contributions of women in society. The month-long celebration, overseen by Provincial Population Officer Melanie C. Chiva, emphasizes skills development, empowerment, and wellness programs for women.

According to Provincial Population Officer IV Jo-Ann Palacio, the celebration will kick-off on March 8, 2026, with a Women’s Day symposium for tricycle drivers and persons of various occupations (POVs).

Partnering with TESDA South Cotabato, the event featured discussions on the “Bawal Bastos Law” (RA-11313) and a guest lecture by a Tupi-based judge, inspiring participants to know their rights and embrace opportunities.

“ Sa kada symposium matutunan natin ang VAWC, and this time naman sa mga tricycle drivers naman naton ipalab-ot ang imprmasyon,” Palacio stated.

From March 11 to 13, women joined skills training at TESDA Provincial Training Center in Surallah.

Workshops included hydroponic lettuce farming, basic house repair, and carpentry, enabling participants to take home practical outputs they can use in daily life or livelihood.

On March 19, the provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (OPSWDO) hosted a Women’s Congress in Kalipi, strengthening networks and promoting women’s welfare.

The celebration culminated on March 21 with the “I Wanna Run Fun Run – Season 3,” Provincial Population Officer I Sam Cyrus M. Bayog shared.

In partnership with TESDA and the South Cotabato Provincial Police Office, the event introduced new routes from SCPO to New Iloilo, Tantangan, offering 5K and 10K distances.

“The run for Kalikasan this year highlights our share in creating  a province  that cares for our environment,” Bayog said.

Sponsors including KCC, IPI Pharmaceutical, Brigada News FM Koronadal, Zakari Health Wellness, and PDRRMO South Cotabato will make the celebration possible.

Registration fees fund programs such as gender-sensitive training for conflicting couples, environmental projects, and the upcoming Tinge-Tinge Store, which will sell products made by women-trained artisans.

Prizes reward champions, top finishers, best-dressed participants, oldest runners, and the largest delegations. Early registration ensures shirt allocation, available online or on-site.

Governor Tamayo, the Provincial Population Office, and partners warmly invite the community to celebrate women’s achievements while supporting sustainable, inclusive initiatives across South Cotabato.
