KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO PHILIPPINES | FEBRUARY 25, 2026 — A major boost to grassroots health services is underway after Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. signed and endorsed a proposal seeking more than ₱21 million in funding from the Department of Health (DOH) to provide essential nutrition tools to every barangay in South Cotabato.
The proposal aims to supply all barangays with standardized weighing scales and height boards—critical equipment used in monitoring the nutritional status of children and other residents.
The move comes in response to the concerns raised by Nutrition Action Officers and Health Coordinators across the province regarding the shortage and condition of existing tools.
Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Rudy S. Jimenea underscored the urgency of the request, noting that inaccurate or insufficient equipment directly affects the reliability of health data gathered in communities.
“Proper monitoring of weight and height is essential in identifying malnutrition cases early and implementing timely interventions, “ he explained.

Jimenea emphasized the complete and updated tools, health workers can perform accurate assessments and deliver better services to the communities.
Governor Tamayo’s endorsement signals the provincial government’s strong commitment to strengthening local health systems and supporting barangay-level programs.

Once approved, the funding will ensure that all barangays are equally equipped, enhancing the efficiency of nutrition monitoring efforts throughout the province.
Local government units (LGUs) have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely and proactive response to long-standing logistical challenges in community healthcare delivery.

The initiative marks a significant step toward improving public health services in South Cotabato, reinforcing the province’s dedication to safeguarding the well-being of its people—starting from the grassroots level.
