Gov. Tamayo reorganizes nutrition committee to fight malnutrition

KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO PHILIPPINES | MARCH 11, 2026  — Strengthening the fight against malnutrition and improving the health of communities, the provincial government of South Cotabato has taken a major step forward with the reconstitution of its Provincial Nutrition Committee through Executive Order No. 07, Series of 2026.

Rudy Jimenea, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, said the EO is signed by Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. on February 11 in Koronadal City.

“The order reorganizes the committee and expands its membership to ensure stronger coordination among government offices, community leaders, and development partners working to address nutrition challenges in the province,” Jimenea explained.

The move updates the earlier Executive Order No. 4 issued in 2023 and responds to the growing need for wider collaboration in delivering nutrition programs.

“The reconstitution will strengthen efforts to reduce malnutrition, improve food security, and promote healthy lifestyles among families, especially children,” he pointed out.

The initiative supports the mandate of Presidential Decree No. 491, which promotes awareness on the importance of nutrition among Filipinos, and aligns with the provisions of Republic Act No. 7160 that require local governments to provide essential health and welfare services.

Under the order, the governor serves as chairperson of the Provincial Nutrition Committee, while the Provincial Health Officer acts as vice chairperson.

Angela Frugalidad, Community Affairs Chief, said the committee brings together representatives from various provincial offices including health, agriculture, social welfare, disaster risk reduction, planning and development, education, and local governance.

“Civil society organizations and private partners also play a crucial role in the committee. Groups such as the Mahintana Foundation Inc. and the Rotary Club of Koronadal are joining us to mobilize community support, resources, and volunteer networks to expand nutrition programs,” Frugalidad said.

The committee will lead the preparation of the Provincial Nutrition Action Plan, coordinate nutrition-related initiatives, and monitor the implementation of nutrition programs in cities, municipalities, and barangays across the province.

Through this strengthened partnership, the provincial government hopes to build healthier communities and ensure that every child and family in South Cotabato has access to proper nutrition, paving the way for a more productive and resilient future.
