Gov. Tamayo takes lead to strengthening local governance, bringing services closer to communities

City of Koronadal, South Cotabato, Philippines | May 6, 2026—- In a continuing push for stronger and more responsive governance, provincial leaders from across the country gathered under the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) to reaffirm their commitment to programs that directly benefit local communities.

Led by South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Sucayan Tamayo Jr., the LPP emphasized the importance of close coordination between local government units and national agencies in ensuring that essential services reach even the most underserved sectors.

“Bilang National President ng LPP, taos-puso tayong nagpapasalamat sa aktibong partisipasyon ng ating mga kapwa gobernador at partner agencies sa patuloy nating layunin na palakasin ang lokal na pamahalaan at mas mapalapit ang serbisyo sa ating mga kababayan,” Tamayo said.

During the LPP’s 4th General Assembly held on Wednesday, May 6, governors and representatives from partner agencies discussed key concerns and priority initiatives aimed at improving governance and strengthening public service delivery nationwide.

As LPP national president, Tamayo expressed gratitude to fellow governors and government partners for their active participation and continued cooperation in pursuing reforms and programs that empower local governments.

The assembly served not only as a venue for policy discussions but also as a platform for collaboration among provincial leaders facing common challenges in their respective communities.

Among the major concerns tackled were the proposed transfer of provincial jails to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), updates on the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), and stronger partnerships between the Department of Education and local government units for the construction of school buildings.

Governors likewise highlighted the importance of investing in agricultural infrastructure, expanding the implementation of the YAKAP Program, and strengthening the rollout of Universal Health Care services in local communities.

The gathering underscored the collective goal of provincial governments to build stronger institutions, improve accessibility to government programs, and promote inclusive development that responds to the evolving needs of Filipinos across the country.
