KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO — Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. has been called the “Father of Cashier-less Hospital” after several Local Government Units (LGUs) across the Philippines expressed interest in conducting benchmarking activities in the Province of South Cotabato. This recognition follows the successful implementation of a free hospitalization program in the province for over seven years.
According to Governor Tamayo, he earned the title because public hospitals managed by the provincial government including the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital, Polomolok Municipal Hospital, and Norala District Hospital no longer have cashiers.
“Kaya’t sinabi siguro na father of cashier less hospital si Governor Tamayo, dahil alam nila na hindi mo na kailangan pumunta sa cashier para magbayad ng bill mo.” Governor Tamayo said.
He explained that the Provincial Government of South Cotabato now shoulders the salaries of doctors, nurses, utility workers, and other hospital staff. As a result, patients admitted to these government hospitals do not have to pay any fees.
“Palagi ko sinasabi na bayad na ito eh, yung mga Doctor at Nurses may pasyente o wala sweldado na yan.” he added.
It can be recalled that in 2019, on his very first day when he assumed the office as Governor, Tamayo immediately implemented a zero-billing policy in all hospitals operated by the provincial government throughout South Cotabato.
This initiative reflects his leadership’s commitment to genuine public service, ensuring that programs are rooted in the actual needs of communities and providing immediate solutions to the people’s most basic concerns.
