Koronadal City, South Cotabato-Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. has assured the public that the provincial government will fully align the national government’s free Burial Assistance Program, emphasizing the province’s readiness to harmonize its implementation with national directives once the proposed measure officially becomes law.
Governor Tamayo made the statement following the submission of the proposed bill on September 28, 2025, to the Office of the President for approval.
The measure, which seeks to institutionalize free burial assistance for indigent families across the country, is currently awaiting the President’s signature. Under the Constitution, if the President does not act on the bill within 30 days, it will automatically lapse into law.
“The provincial government of South Cotabato will comply with any law that is aligned with the programs of the National Government regarding project implementation once it becomes law,” Governor Tamayo affirmed.
He added that the local government will ensure the smooth coordination and proper distribution of resources to guarantee that the Free Burial Assistance Program effectively reaches those who need it most, particularly the poor and marginalized sectors of the province.
The Free Burial Assistance Program is designed to ease the financial burden of families who struggle to afford funeral and burial expenses.
Once enacted, it will serve as a lifeline to many Filipinos who often face debt and hardship following the death of a loved one.
Governor Tamayo also expressed optimism that the bill’s passage would mark a significant milestone in strengthening social protection measures nationwide.
“South Cotabato is ready to comply with all implementing guidelines and will work closely with national agencies to ensure the program’s prompt and fair execution,” the governor assured the public.
The governor’s assurance underscores the province’s proactive stance in ensuring that all national social welfare programs are effectively cascaded to the local level.
Through coordination between the Department of Social Welfare and Development , local government units , and other concerned agencies, the province aims to create a unified system that guarantees transparency and accountability in the delivery of aid.
