Governor Tamayo directs swift assistance to fire victims in Norala

NORALA, South Cotabato — The Disaster Response Team (DRT) of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office conducted thorough ground validation, damage assessment, and intake interviews with tenants renting both commercial and residential spaces affected by the recent fire in Purok Mercado, Barangay Poblacion, Norala.

The on-site activity aimed to verify the extent of damage and document the socio-economic situation of those affected to identify urgent needs and facilitate appropriate responses.

During the assessment, twelve (12) tenants were verified, all of whom experienced varying levels of loss due to the fire.

Findings showed that the affected tenants mainly rely on small businesses, daily wages, and other informal income sources.

The fire disrupted their livelihoods, damaged personal belongings, and caused temporary displacement for some families, underscoring the immediate need for assistance and recovery support.

In response, Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. directed the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (OPSWDO), led by Sonia L. Bautista, to swiftly provide immediate relief to the affected tenants.

This support includes essential relief supplies and other aid aimed at meeting their urgent needs.

Governor Tamayo also emphasized the importance of coordinated recovery efforts to help the affected rebuild their livelihoods and regain stability.

He instructed the OPSWDO to assess additional interventions, such as livelihood recovery programs and other social protection services, to support long-term rehabilitation.

The South Cotabato Provincial Government remains committed to ensuring the safety, well-being, and recovery of its residents, especially those impacted by disasters.

Ongoing coordination with local government units and relevant agencies will continue to monitor the situation and ensure aid reaches those in need.
