Koronadal City, South Cotabato- South Cotabato has launched the 2025 GreenMed Excellence Award to push hospitals and clinics toward stricter, smarter healthcare, waste practices- aimed at safer neighborhoods, cleaner waterways, and better patient experience across the province.
Seigfred Falaviano, Provincial Environment and Management Officer, said the contest uses incentives to strengthen compliance with Provincial Ordinance No. 6 (2016) and related environmental- health laws linking facility performance to practical community benefits such as reduced exposure to infectious waste and more reliable service in local health facilities.
“The program is designed to raise the share of facilities fully following the ordinance, deepen agency coordination, and position South Cotabato as a model for sustainable healthcare-waste management- outcomes expected to translate to safer barangays and cleaner environments,” Flaviano said.
he awards also target visible, people-level results by scoring client feedback and impact, including service delivery metrics and satisfaction, ensuring that process improvements reach patients and households.
Participation is open to DENR/DOH/PhilHealth-accredited providers operating in the province including public and private hospitals, RHUs, birthing homes, diagnostic laboratories, and dialysis centers- with a valid MOA with the provincial healthcare-waste treatment facility.
Jovelyn F. Campaan, EMS I, sai the entries include a best-practices portfolio and a 3–5 minute video detailing safeguards, technologies, and community engagement.
“Judging covers compliance and documentation, operational safety (collection to treatment), environmental sustainability, innovation and community engagement, and client impact criteria meant to reward practices that directly cut risks in households and workspaces,” Campaan stressed.
The program will announce winners on November 21, 2025, following validation and deliberations with a multi-agency TWG (DOH XII, PhilHealth XII, OPPDC, OPIO, OIPHO, OPE).
Top prizes and special citations are funded under OPENRO’s CY2025 Urban Environment Programs, with a total allocation of ₱109,500 to spur adoption and replication of proven practices across facilities.
Program documents indicate expected outputs such as recognized exemplars, higher compliance across providers, and documented models for replication- measures intended to “travel” from winning facilities to everyday care, improving public awareness and environmental protection in communities province-wide.
