Koronadal City, South Cotabato, Philippines | August 29, 2025 – The HIV/AIDS Core Team (HACT) Clinic of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) in South Cotabato is encouraging residents to undergo free HIV testing to know their status and access timely intervention if needed.
With HIV cases rising both in the province and nationwide, local health workers are intensifying efforts to provide accessible, high-quality healthcare services. The initiative aims to promote early detection, reduce transmission, and support individuals living with HIV through appropriate treatment and care.
John Arlo M. Codilla, RN, Disease Prevention and Control Cluster Head, shared that the HIV Treatment Hub in South Cotabato is currently serving 1,784 clients, including individuals from outside the province.
“In terms of access to treatment, ang health is wala sang boundaries. Amo na ang kanami-an diri sa South Cotabato, we open our treatment facilities tungod sa adbokasiya sang aton Governor, Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr.,” Codilla said.
He also addressed the stigma that prevents some from getting tested.
“They don’t have to fear. Kay hindi mo mabal an sa sarili mo nga kung ikaw apektado unless kung mag pa-test ka. So kung mag dugay ang period of infection, ginaguba sang HIV ang Immune Systems mo, tapos hindi mo bal an nga HIV na gale ina. That’s why it’s so important to know your status.” Codilla added.
This effort is aligned with the Free Hospitalization Program of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., which ensures that essential health services—including HIV testing and treatment, are made available to all, regardless of financial status. The HACT Clinic likewise highlights its One-Stop Shop Services, offering same-day testing, results, and treatment.
The clinic underscores that HIV testing is confidential, free, and lifesaving. Early detection not only improves health outcomes but also strengthens the fight against the spread of HIV in South Cotabato.
