Healthier babies born in South Cotabato in the past five years, data show

South Cotabato, Philippines | October 11, 2025 – South Cotabato’s nutrition programs are quietly transforming lives in communities, helping children grow healthier and mothers give birth to stronger babies, according to the data recorded by the Provincial Nutrition Committee.

Liza Enamno, Nutrition Officer I, said through the SAGOP BATA Project, hundreds of undernourished children received a new chance at health.

“These programs don’t just feed,” Inamno said. “They give dignity, health, and hope.”

The data said that from 2020 to 2024, around 500 children each year were part of the feeding program. All of them gained weight, and hundreds were fully rehabilitated from being underweight to normal.

3 alone, 427 children were successfully brought back to good health — a result that brings pride and hope to health workers and families alike.

Meanwhile, Enamno recorded the BATAK (Buntis Alagaan, Tamang Atensyon Kailangan) program is making pregnancy safer for mothers.

Every year, 300 pregnant women received proper nutrition care, ensuring better outcomes for their babies.

In 2024, 277 newborns were born at a healthy weight — a clear sign that early intervention and care make a difference.

Another growing program, Responsable nga Pag Sagop kag Pag Tatap (RST) sa Nutrisyon, helped 360 children in 2024 alone. All of them showed weight improvement, with 101 fully rehabilitated.

She shared that their feeding activities are ongoing for 2025, reaching more children in need.

“The program also empowers families. This year, 42 parents received livelihood support — from goats, chickens, and ducks to small businesses like sari-sari stores, barbecue stalls, and native snack (kakanin) ventures,” she emphasized.

With every meal served and every family supported, South Cotabato continues its fight against malnutrition, Enamno added.
