Innovations and rehabilitation programs at South Cotabato detention center strengthened through provincial government support

SOUTH COTABATO – The management of the South Cotabato Rehabilitation and Detention Center (SCRDC) continues to strengthen its various programs and activities aimed at promoting the welfare, transformation, and rehabilitation of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).

According to Provincial Warden Barney Condes, RN, the facility continues to receive strong support from the Provincial Government of South Cotabato under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. for the implementation of various programs and projects inside the detention facility.

“Isa sa mga  priotities naton sa SCRDC ang mapadayon ang pagimprove kag mapabaskog ang mga rehabilitation programs nga gin disenyo para sa mga PDLs para maprepare sila sa ila nga mga pamilya kag komunidad sa-tion nga maka guwa sila sa pasilidad,” Condes said

Among the programs being strengthened are activities that provide PDLs with opportunities to improve their physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being while they remain inside the facility.

Condes also emphasized that rehabilitation goes beyond maintaining security and order inside the detention center.

It also seeks to provide PDLs with opportunities for personal transformation, self-development, and renewed hope for the future.

According to Rehabilitation Program holder Joanne Lazaga, the recognition as a drug-free facility was made possible through the continued cooperation of the PDLs, jail personnel, and concerned government agencies in implementing programs that promote discipline, responsibility, and a drug-free environment.

“Sa ngayon drug-free ang facility, resulta ito ng massive drugs testing na isinagawa sa 438 sa mga PDls loob ng pasilidad dahil na rin sa cooperation ng mga PDLs, Jail personnel, at lahat ng mga stake holders.” Lazaga said

The drug testing results were considered a positive indication of the center’s continued vigilance and implementation of programs aimed at preventing illegal drug use within the detention facility.

With the continued support of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr, the SCRDC management aims to further strengthen programs that can contribute to positive changes in the lives of PDLs and help prepare them for their eventual reintegration into their families and communities.

Through sustained intervention, skills development, discipline, and support, the facility seeks to help PDLs build a more positive future while contributing to the establishment of a safer and more organized community.
