Koronadal, South Cotabato| September 10, 2025 – The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) has urged the public to stay alert and informed about the symptoms of tuberculosis (TB), stressing that early detection is key to preventing severe complications and saving lives.
Nurse-III John Arlo Codilla, Head of the Provincial TB Control Unit, said TB remains a serious but curable disease—if individuals seek medical help at the first signs of illness.
“Awareness and immediate action today can save a life tomorrow,” Codilla said, underscoring the importance of recognizing TB’s warning signs.
These include unintentional weight loss despite no changes in diet, persistent fever, chronic fatigue, and a cough that lingers for weeks.
Codilla reminded residents not to ignore these symptoms and to visit the nearest health center or the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital for a check-up. Free consultations and medications are available through government health services.
He emphasized that early diagnosis and timely treatment remain the most effective ways to stop the spread of TB in the community. He also called on families, friends, and neighbors to actively encourage those showing symptoms to seek medical attention without delay.
“TB is preventable, and treatment is free,” Codilla stressed. “The earlier we detect it; the sooner we can cure it—and prevent unnecessary deaths.”
With the call to action, the IPHO hopes to strengthen community awareness and cooperation to curb TB’s impact and move closer toward a healthier South Cotabato.
