KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — Defending champion Municipality of Lake Sebu successfully retained its crown after emerging as the grand champion of the Thematic Dance Competition during the opening program of the 27th T’nalak Festival and the 60th Foundation Anniversary of the Province of South Cotabato on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Delivering another captivating performance based on the Filipino Folklore Character “Darna”, the Lake Sebu contingent earned the judges’ highest honors to secure its second consecutive championship title.
The contingent received a cash prize of ₱250,000 and the Most Excellent Performance Award, reaffirming its dominance in one of the festival’s premier cultural competitions.
Following their successful title defense, Lake Sebu Main Trainer Ronie Lacuesta credited the back-to-back victory to the unwavering dedication and unity of everyone behind the contingent.
Lacuesta said the championship was made possible through months of hard work and perseverance despite the many challenges they faced throughout their preparation.
“Our back-to-back championship is the result of countless sacrifices, sleepless nights, and the collective effort of everyone involved. We are grateful to our dancers, coaches, schools, principals, and the Local Government Unit of Lake Sebu for their unwavering support. Despite the rain that disrupted our rehearsals, the challenges in gathering our dancers, and our limited resources, we remained committed to our goal. This victory proves that when everyone works together with dedication and passion, no challenge is too great to overcome,” Lacuesta said.
Area 9504 x MELTS Corporation was named 1st Runner-up, receiving ₱200,000 and the Powerhouse Performance Award for its dynamic and high-energy presentation.
The Municipality of Polomolok finished as 2nd Runner-up, earning ₱150,000 and the Most Creative Set Award in recognition of its innovative stage design and visual presentation.
The City of Koronadal secured the 3rd Runner-up title, taking home ₱100,000 and the Fearless Performer Award for its bold and spirited performance.
Featuring four contingents, this year’s Thematic Dance Competition showcased local myths, traditions, and artistic excellence through vibrant performances that highlighted the Philippines’ rich cultural identity.
As one of the major highlights of the T’nalak Festival’s opening celebration, the competition once again demonstrated the creativity, talent, and cultural pride of South Cotabato while celebrating the province’s 60th Foundation Anniversary.
