South Cotabato, Philippines | October 14, 2025-The morale and confidence of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the province of South Cotabato have reached new heights because of the inclusive policies and equal opportunities championed by Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr.
Mary Bucong, Vice President of the Katribu Program, attributed this growing sense of empowerment among IP communities to Governor Tamayo’s dedication to programs that directly benefit Indigenous groups.
“Governor Tamayo has played a major role in restoring the confidence of the tribes in themselves. Through his programs, the IPs feel seen, heard, and cared for,” she said.
Among the most impactful initiatives cited by Bucong is the Free Hospitalization Program, which has proven to be a vital service for many IP families.
On the other hand, access to quality education has allowed IP youth to finish college, with many now working as licensed professionals in various fields — a significant achievement for the community.
The Katribu Program, has also acted as a crucial bridge in delivering government services to remote IP communities — areas that are often overlooked or difficult to reach.
Through the program, IPs in far-flung barangays have been included in development efforts and are now more engaged in provincial activities.
In line with the celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Month this 25th of October, Bucong called on the public to participate in the upcoming festivities at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center.
The celebration will feature a showcase of talents, parlor games, and the active participation of IP leaders, youth, and special guests from the national level.
“This is more than just a celebration,” Bucong emphasized. “It is a recognition of the vital role IPs play not only in the province but in the cultural identity of our entire nation.”
