South Cotabato, Philippines — Fifty T’boli farmers now have better postharvest support with the turnover of a new 384-square-meter Multi-purpose Drying Pavement with a service area of 50 hectares in Barangay Datal Dlanag.
Engr. Joan M. Batobalani, Supervising Agriculturist, highlighted the project’s value to the farming community, especially in rural areas.
“This project offers a versatile community space that serves both agricultural purposes—by reducing post-harvest losses—and community development. It can also be used for events, gatherings, and sports competitions, truly embodying its purpose as a multi-purpose facility,” Batobalani said.
The provincial government allocated ₱861,353.41 from its 20% Local Development Fund (LDF) to make the project possible, affirming its strong commitment to improving agricultural infrastructure and driving community development in underserved areas.
Jerry B. Limbang, Barangay Chairman, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, acknowledging the initiative of the Provincial Agriculturist Office in providing a dedicated and convenient facility for drying agricultural products.
“We are very blessed to received this donated land and the construction of the drying pavement,” the barangay chairman said.
Meanwhile, Simeon Piang, who requested the project, said the support does’nt only eases the drying process but also ensures improved quality of harvests.
“We have now an area where the farmers gather together to sort things out problems about agriculture,” Piang added.
Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. stressed that investing in agriculture is not just a strategy but a lifeline for inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and food security in South Cotabato. He underscored the pressing need to equip farmers with infrastructure, support services, and market access—tools they urgently need to thrive and compete in today’s challenging agricultural landscape.
