KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — More than 900 health enthusiasts participated in The Run BRAVE: NDRM Run for Resilience 2026 today as part of the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026, organized by the Office Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (OPDRRMO) of South Cotabato to promote disaster preparedness, public awareness, and community participation through a non-competitive fun run.
According to SOLE Strides President, Kent Peter S. Cuadrado, who led the event’s warm-up session, participants could choose between two race categories. The 5-kilometer run began at 4:50 a.m., with the turnaround point at Golden Valley Memorial Park, while the 3-kilometer run started at 4:55 a.m., turning around at the DPWH Viewdeck.
“We also have hydration stations at the turning points, where you can grab water or electrolyte drinks to stay hydrated. Let’s enjoy the run, and most importantly, run safe!” Cuadrado said.
Although the event was not a competitive race, participants still received recognition for completing the course.
“There will be no podium winners, as the activity is designed to promote unity, preparedness, and community engagement rather than competition,” Cuadrado added.
Meanwhile, the OPDRRMO reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and resilience of communities across South Cotabato as the province continues to strengthen its disaster preparedness programs.
OPDRRMO Head Rolly Doanne Aquino stressed that while natural disasters cannot be prevented, communities can reduce their impact through proper preparation.
“Welcome ang kalamidad, dahil hindi natin ito maiiwasan lalong-lalo na kapag natural phenomenon. What we can do is prepare and ensure that we are ready to respond effectively,” Aquino said.
Aquino explained that the province has established comprehensive disaster risk reduction and management programs covering prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response, and rehabilitation to minimize risks, protect lives, and support faster recovery after emergencies.
He also highlighted that South Cotabato maintains a 24-hour Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for continuous monitoring and immediate coordination during disasters.
The province likewise provides free transportation services for patients requiring urgent medical assistance to ensure timely access to healthcare facilities.
“Bukas ang pinto ng OPDRRMO South Cotabato kong meron kayong kailangan,” Aquino added.
The province’s disaster preparedness initiatives are aligned with the directive of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., who continues to prioritize public safety, efficient emergency response, and resilient communities through proactive governance and people-centered services.
