New dog impounding facility in Polomolok set for September turnover

South Cotabato, Philippines – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinary, in partnership with the Municipal Government of Polomolok, is set to inaugurate and turn over a newly constructed Dog Impounding Facility this September.

The project forms part of the provincial government’s continuing campaign to promote responsible pet ownership, strengthen animal welfare programs, and address the growing problem of stray animals in communities.

The facility will serve as a designated holding area for stray and unattended dogs, which often pose risks to public health and safety. By reducing the number of roaming animals, the initiative aims to help prevent dog bites, control the spread of rabies, and create safer and cleaner public spaces.

According to Samson C. Domaoan, Agriculturist II of the Office of the Municipal Agriculture of Polomolok, the facility will have a long-term impact on both pet owners and the community.

“Ang facility na ito ay tiyak na magkaroon ng impact at makakatulong sa ating mga dog owners at sa community na kung saan mabawasan yung porsyento ng stray animals,” Domaoan stated.

The facility is equipped with 23 cages that can accommodate 30 to 40 dogs, depending on breed and size. Large and small breeds will be classified and housed separately to ensure the safety and welfare of all animals inside.

Domaoan added that the strict classification system, together with the supervision of the Office of the Municipal Agriculture, will help maintain proper care, feeding, and monitoring of impounded dogs.

The establishment of the Polomolok Dog Impounding Facility reflects the commitment of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato and the Office of the Provincial Veterinary to prioritize public health, safety, and animal welfare. It also complements the province’s Rabies Prevention and Control Program, which includes vaccination drives, community education campaigns, and the enforcement of local ordinances on responsible pet ownership.

The provincial government continues to remind pet owners to act responsibly by ensuring that their pets are vaccinated, given proper care, and not allowed to roam freely in public areas.

With the completion and upcoming turnover of the Polomolok Dog Impounding Facility, South Cotabato takes another step toward its vision of building a healthier, safer, and more compassionate community for both people and animals.
