KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato conducted a public hearing on the proposed Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) for 2025–2029, gathering key stakeholders from the transportation sector and local government units across the province.
The activity was spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator in partnership with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Transportation chaired by Hon. Sarse Atam Jr.
Around 100 participants attended the hearing, including representatives from transport groups, operators, drivers, and various LGUs in South Cotabato.
During the consultation, the committee presented the proposed LPTRP, which aims to improve the province’s public transportation system and align local transport services with national transportation policies.
Members of the transport sector raised concerns regarding the implementation of transport modernization programs, particularly citing financial constraints and the high cost of compliance for operators and drivers.
Representatives from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board or LTFRB also attended the hearing and assured transport stakeholders that technical assistance and guidance would be provided should the proposed plan be approved.
Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. emphasized the importance of inclusive consultation and collaboration in shaping transport policies that directly affect commuters and transport operators.
“We want to ensure that our transportation system is not only organized and efficient, but also responsive to the needs and realities of our transport operators and commuters. Through this consultation, we are giving every stakeholder the opportunity to be heard as we work toward a more sustainable public transport system for South Cotabato,” He said.
Furthermore, the governor also reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to developing a transport system that is efficient, accessible, and responsive to the needs of South Cotabateños.
Meanwhile, Engr. Bernadeth L. Naval, Planning Officer III, shared that the transportation sector generally expressed positive feedback during the public hearing, noting that stakeholders appreciated the opportunity to raise concerns and participate in the planning process.
She added that the consultation served as an important step toward crafting a transport plan that considers both public welfare and the realities faced by transport operators.
Following the public hearing, the committee is expected to proceed with deliberations and seek approval of the ordinance before July 2026.
