No New ASF Case in South Cotabato, Veterinary Officials Report

South Cotabato, Philippines — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato reported that no new cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) have been recorded in the province, as authorities continue to enforce strict surveillance and preventive measures to protect the local swine industry.

According to Doc Ella Rose C. Frugalidad, Veterinarian II of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, all municipalities in South Cotabato are currently classified under the Yellow Zone, with the Municipality of Polomolok maintaining its Green Zone classification.

“While South Cotabato has not recorded any new ASF infections, we have yet to be officially declared ASF-free by the Bureau of Animal Industry. In line with national guidelines, we continue strict monitoring and surveillance to ensure the disease does not return,” she said.

Frugalidad further reported that the Municipalities of Lake Sebu and Tantangan have been issued a Recognition of Active Surveillance for African Swine Fever (RAS-ASF) for meeting the necessary surveillance and biosecurity requirements.

Meanwhile, the Municipality of T’boli remains under ongoing surveillance and is still completing compliance requirements for possible recognition.

Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to sustained vigilance and preventive action against ASF.

“We are targeting to become a Green Zone,” Governor Tamayo said. “So far, no ASF cases have been reported, and monitoring remains continuous.”

The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, continues to work closely with the Bureau of Animal Industry and local government units to strengthen biosecurity measures, conduct regular surveillance, and ensure early detection and rapid response.

These coordinated efforts aim to safeguard the province’s swine industry, protect farmers’ livelihoods, and move toward eventual official declaration once all national requirements are fully satisfied.
